The Ready Room – Representative Scott Franklin

Hello Friend,

Welcome to my e-newsletter, the Ready Room. As a retired Naval Aviator, the Ready Room is special to me because it’s where fellow aviators meet to brief and debrief missions. This is my weekly briefing to you on my mission in Congress. Please follow me on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and YouTube for regular updates on how my team and I are working to serve you in Congress.

DEFUNDING SANCTUARY CITIES

Gallup found immigration ranks as the top issue of concern for Americans, even above the economy. Open border policies are exhausting community resources and leaving Americans vulnerable to preventable crime. Yet many cities have declared themselves a “sanctuary” from federal immigration laws, but still receive federal tax dollars.

That’s why I cosponsored H.R. 5717, the No Bailout for Sanctuary Cities Act, to block federal funding from flowing into any jurisdiction with sanctuary cities that allow the migrant crisis to metastasize and endanger their own residents.

COUNTERING THE CHINESE COMMUNIST PARTY

The CCP seeks global military and economic dominance by weakening our economy, infiltrating our education system and using our own technology against us. We must hold China accountable.

I was pleased to cosponsor H.R. 7476, the Countering Communist China Act, a comprehensive effort to counter the threat we face from China. This important bill:

  • Places trade restrictions on Chinese military and surveillance companies,
  • Sanctions Chinese apps that steal Americans’ data,
  • Blocks federal funding to universities who receive any funding from the CCP,
  • Holds China accountable for their human rights abuses against Uyghurs.

ENHANCING SPECIALTY CROP INNOVATION

Our district is home to over 200 specialty crops that feed the nation and the world. To meet the growing demand to feed millions during labor shortages, we need agricultural technology innovation.

That’s why I joined my colleagues to urge the Agriculture Committee to make time-saving technologies more affordable for growers and prioritize mechanization and automation research and development as they develop the next Farm Bill.
