Congressman Greg Stuebe April 14, 2024

April 14, 2024

Dear Floridian:

Biden’s weakness has given billions to Iran to launch attacks on US Soldiers and now Israel. All their military capability should be destroyed and severe economic sanctions put back in place. The Iranians were broke when Trump left office and now they are enriched, empowered and emboldened. Israel should respond militarily as they see appropriate and finish cleaning Hamas out of Gaza.

This week in Washington, I staunchly opposed H.R. 7888 Reforming Intelligence and Securing America Act to reauthorize FISA. This bill extends the warrantless surveillance powers of the intelligence agencies without adequate safeguards for our privacy rights, including a troubling provision granting special treatment to members of Congress. I will always stand for the civil liberties of all Americans.

My colleagues also joined me in denouncing the Biden Administration’s consideration of labeling changes on certain Israeli imports, which would greatly undermine our trade relationship with Israel. We sent the letter to President Biden emphasizing the need to uphold our unwavering support for Israel and combat antisemitism in all its forms.

I joined the Ways and Means Committee for a hearing discussing the success of President Trump’s 2017 tax cuts in helping Americans of all income levels. The contrast between Trump and Biden’s tax policies could not be clearer. The Trump tax cuts lifted six million people out of poverty and provided historic savings for millions of Americans. Meanwhile, Joe Biden wants to increase taxes by $7 trillion dollars on hard working Americans during a period of record inflation caused by Biden’s trillions in new spending!

Back in Florida, I’m pleased to report that, thanks to my office’s advocacy, as well as the advocacy of Senator Scott, Senator Rubio, and Rep. Donalds, FEMA’s unjust flood insurance increases for Hurricane Ian victims have been paused for 30 days. We will continue to work with Lee County during the next 30 days in an effort to have FEMA permanently reverse their decision.

Demanding Accountability Over Intel Agencies’ Spying Powers on Americans

This week, we faced a critical decision in Congress regarding the reauthorization of surveillance powers under FISA. Reports show that the FBI abused their FISA authorities 278,000 times. I hold serious concerns about the constitutionality of FISA. This bill raised serious concerns as it allowed spying on Americans without a warrant. What’s more alarming is that Congress included a provision giving themselves special treatment, a “carve-out,” in this bill. The bill requires the FBI to notify and seek consent from Congress before invading the privacy of Congressmen. Unfortunately, this provision swayed many members of Congress to vote yes. However, I couldn’t support a bill that creates double standards and undermines the privacy rights of our constituents. I will keep fighting in Congress to uphold the privacy rights and civil liberties of all Americans.

Slamming the Biden Administration for Weighing “West Bank” Label on Certain Israeli Imports

I led a letter to President Biden alongside colleagues Neal Dunn (R-Fla.), Chuck Fleischmann (R-Tenn.), and Andy Ogles (R-Tenn.), to take a firm stance against potential changes in the labeling of certain Israeli imports. We spearheaded a letter condemning the Biden Administration’s consideration of this move, which would reverse President Trump’s policy. We expressed deep concerns about its potential economic repercussions for Israel and its capacity to embolden the antisemitic BDS Movement. It is imperative that we maintain unwavering support for Israel and safeguard our robust trade relationship. Additionally, it is crucial to recognize the historical significance of such actions, as they draw parallels to past instances of antisemitism. Furthermore, we must underscore the potential harm to both Israeli and American interests. Let’s stand united in support of Israel and steadfastly oppose any actions by the Biden Administration that could undermine our enduring partnership.

Securing a Pause on FEMA’s Decision to Hike Flood Insurance Premiums on Hurricane Ian Victims

Thanks to our relentless advocacy and the steadfast support of local officials, FEMA has decided to pause for 30 days to reassess their decision on flood insurance increases for Hurricane Ian victims in Lee County. It was unjust to blindside Southwest Floridians with these sudden hikes, putting millions of dollars at stake. As we enter this critical 30-day period, our team stands ready to support Lee County and ensure a favorable outcome. Together, we’re committed to securing justice and stability for our community as we continue to recover from Hurricane Ian.

CAPE CORAL BREEZE | Officials welcome FEMA’s decision to ‘pause’ action impacting flood insurance discounts

“Congressman Byron Donalds, joined by U.S. Rep. Greg Steube, and U.S senators Rick Scott and Marco Rubio, wrote a letter to FEMA Administrator Deanne Criswell last week that urged a reversal of FEMA’s decision to “retrograde” the rating to a 10, the lowest possible, offering no reduction in premiums at all.”
