The headlines are tragic and heart-wrenching as Florida’s small businesses close by the thousands due to the pandemic and workers go on unemployment.
Those local businesses that haven’t closed are just barely hanging on by a thread.
Now, big money special interests are pushing ballot Amendment 2. Amendment 2 places a $15 an hour wage mandate in the Florida Constitution that applies to all size counties and all size businesses.
Not even California goes that far and no other state sets the minimum wage in their constitution.
This radical wage mandate would force struggling businesses into a crippling economic hole from which they would not emerge. The result are broken dreams, empty buildings and workers left without a job.
The remaining businesses will be forced to raise prices and costs for groceries, childcare and healthcare will spike. Local businesses devastated. Workers left unemployed. Massive increases to the cost of a middle-class lifestyle. All this for a minimum wage mandate that hasn’t fixed the income disparity anywhere it’s been tried.
