I Am Not Done Fighting for Border Security

Since 2021, more than 9 million illegal immigrants have crossed America’s borders and made their way into our communities. With them has come a wave of increased violent crime, illegal drugs, and human trafficking. This week, President Biden announced an Executive Order to finally address the monumental crisis that he created. But it’s too little, too late.

Unfortunately, this weak Executive Order doesn’t repair the damage that has been done. If President Biden is serious about addressing this crisis, and not just scoring political points, he should support House Republicans’ Secure the Border Act which will fix the dangerous policies that have created this crisis.

As your Representative in Congress, I have been fighting for a secure border and a strong nation since day one in office. Every community throughout our nation has felt the effects of this administration’s harmful open-border policies, and I am working to put an end to it. I joined Fox LiveNow this week to discuss the work that House Republicans are doing to secure our nation. Our work is not done until our border is closed.

Tampa Student Wins 2024 National Spelling Bee

Congratulations to Bruhat Soma for claiming the title of the 2024 Scripps National Spelling Bee Champion! Bruhat is a student at Tampa’s Turner/Bartels K-8 School here in Florida’s 15th District. To win the title, not only did Bruhat have to spell challenging words in the English language, but he also had to navigate German words. This is not an easy feat—it is clear that Bruhat has a very bright future ahead!

Supporting our Nation’s Veterans

Florida’s 15th District is home to more than 45,000 veterans. Having grown up in a military family, it is one of my top priorities as a Member of Congress to support our nation’s heroes. This week, House Republicans passed the Military Construction and Veterans Affairs Appropriations Bill for Fiscal Year 2025. I was proud to vote in support of this bill because it honors our commitment to our veterans while fortifying our national security.

Specifically, this bill would fully fund Veterans Affairs (VA) benefits and programs, protect veterans’ Second Amendment rights, prohibit the VA from filing claims for illegal aliens, and prohibit taxpayer dollars from being used for abortion, barring certain exemptions. Our nation’s heroes selflessly fought for our freedoms, and I am committed to ensuring they receive the care they earned. If you or a family member need assistance with the VA or are having trouble receiving your hard-earned benefits, please contact my office at (813) 393-5077.

Doing Good for Our Community

Since its inception in Florida in 1908, Publix Supermarkets has been an integral part of our state and community. Today, the company serves millions of people throughout the Southeast across its 7-state footprint. They recently hit a tremendous milestone with over 100 million pounds of produce being donated to 35 food banks across these states. I was pleased to meet with Publix CEO, Kevin Murphy, this week in DC to learn more about their mission and discuss how they will continue to do good and serve families throughout our community.

Upholding the Rule of Law

One of the most fundamental roles we have in Congress is to provide oversight of federal agency operations, functions, and policies. The U.S. Attorney General (AG) plays an important role in delivering justice and defending the rule of law throughout our nation. Recently, in courts throughout the United States, we have seen the justice system become less about eradicating violent crime in our communities, and more about weaponizing our judicial system for political gain.

This week, the Committee on House Judiciary held a hearing conducting oversight of the U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ). The DOJ has a duty to promote our national security consistent with the rule of law. As a former prosecutor and judge, I understand the importance of focusing on judicial integrity and upholding law and order. As a Member of Congress, I will continue to put the primacy of law first and ensure that our justice system is used to protect Americans throughout Florida’s 15th District and beyond.
