March 10, 2024 Dear Floridian, This weekend marks the time of year when we continue the antiquated practice of changing our clocks. For years, I’ve been at the forefront of the movement to abolish this practice and instead embrace the concept of permanent Daylight Saving Time year-round. The benefits are abundant, ranging from bolstering our agriculture economy to enhancing public safety. Taking concrete steps towards this goal, I’ve championed bills both at the state and federal levels, aiming to preserve more of our cherished Florida sunshine throughout the year. Additionally, I had the honor of hosting Ms. Gillian Kaye, an advocate for the safe return of all Hamas-held hostages, including her stepson Sagui Dekel-Chen. The presence of Ms. Kaye and Sagui’s father, Jonathan at the State of the Union this week was critical to help keep national and international attention on bringing all six remaining American hostages home. I also was happy to vote in support of the Laken Riley Act this week. This legislation addresses illegal immigrant crime and further underscores our commitment to securing our borders to prevent such incidents in the future. As a member of the Weaponization subcommittee, I participated in a hearing to expose concerning instances of massive government surveillance, particularly regarding the financial data of American citizens. Joining Families of Our American Hostages at the State of the Union
I was honored to have Ms. Gillian Kaye, an advocate for the safe return of all Hamas-held hostages, including her stepson Sagui Dekel-Chen, as my distinguished guest for the 2024 State of the Union. The presence of Ms. Kaye and Sagui’s father, Jonathan at the State of the Union this week was critical to help keep national and international attention on bringing all six remaining American hostages home. Additionally, I participated in a bipartisan press conference on Capitol Hill alongside the families of Americans held by Hamas, underscoring the urgency of bringing the hostages home.

Passing The Laken Riley Act to Fight Illegal Immigrant Crime
This week the U.S. House passed the Laken Riley Act, H.R. 7511, with a vote of 251-170, in effort to combat illegal immigrant crime. I was honored to vote in favor of this critical legislation. The legislation requires Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) to issue detainers and take custody of illegal aliens who commit theft-related crimes, such as shoplifting, as defined by state and local law. The bill, aimed at equipping ICE and state governments with enhanced tools, addresses key immigration issues, including condemnation of President Biden’s weak border policies and empowering state Attorneys General to pursue injunctive relief. The passage of this act underscores a bipartisan commitment to restoring the rule of law and ensuring justice for victims like Laken Riley, whose tragic murder could have been prevented with effective immigration enforcement measures.

Exposing Massive Government Surveillance of Americans Financial Data
As a member of the Select Subcommittee on the Weaponization of the Federal Government, I joined a hearing where we examined troubling evidence of federal law enforcement agencies engaging in extensive surveillance of American citizens’ financial information, without proper justification. This surveillance, conducted by agencies such as the Treasury Department’s FinCEN and the FBI, appears to target individuals based on political and religious affiliations protected by the Constitution. As a member of this subcommittee, I am committed to ensuring transparency and accountability in our government agencies to protect the fundamental freedoms of all Americans.

Steube said.” Read more here. DAILY SIGNAL | Jordan Peterson Warns Congress: ‘We Are in Danger of Eliminating the Private Sphere’ “Rep. Greg Steube, R-Fla., said that it’s ‘absolutely insane, the level of the deep state acting to go after pro-life groups, pro-gun groups.’ ‘The U.S. Department of Treasury told banks to be on the lookout for use of debit and credit cards for the purchase of legal firearms,’ Steube said. ‘It’s appalling that a federal agency would ask private companies to spy on legal business transactions.’” Read more here.
