June 16, 2024 Dear Floridian: Happy Father’s Day! Feeling blessed to celebrate this special day with my son, Ethan. Being a father is a great blessing! Today, I also honor my father, Brad, whose wisdom and courage continue to inspire me every day. Here’s to all the amazing dads out there! This week the House passed the National Defense Authorization Act which is the annual bill that funds our military. This year’s NDAA included my amendment to keep radical gender ideology and pornography out of DoD schools, ensuring a safe educational environment for our service members’ children. Wednesday night, I took part in one of the best traditions in Washington DC! I had the honor of pitching in the 2024 Congressional Baseball Game, an annual tradition of Republicans playing the Democrats at Nationals Park. For the 4th year in a row, Republicans brought home the win, with a score of 31-11. On Friday, I announced my legislation to name U.S. coastal waters (EEZ) in honor of President Donald Trump, reflecting his significant accomplishments for ocean science and resource management during his presidency. Introducing Legislation Renaming U.S. Coastal Waters in Honor of President Trump
This week, I introduced legislation to designate the United States’ exclusive economic zone (EEZ) as the “Donald John Trump Exclusive Economic Zone of the United States.” This bill requires that any reference to the EEZ in U.S. law, maps, regulations, or documents bear this name. President Trump made significant contributions to ocean science, technology, and resource management during his tenure. The U.S. EEZ, the largest in the world at 4,383,000 square miles, encompasses vital coastal natural resources. My legislation honors President Trump’s efforts to strengthen and protect these resources for future generations.

Passing My Amendment to Prohibit Radical Gender Ideology and Pornography from DoD Schools
This week, the House approved my amendment to H.R. 8070 Servicemember Quality of Life Improvement and National Defense Authorization Act for Fiscal Year 2025. This amendment prohibits the Department of Defense Education Activity (DoDEA) from using any funds to purchase, display, or maintain material promoting radical gender ideology or pornographic content. Fox News reported in 2022 that many of these inappropriate books were added to DoDEA schools within the last two years under the Biden Administration. DoDEA, one of two Federally-operated school systems, serves nearly 70,000 children of active duty military and DoD civilian families across more than 160 schools worldwide. This amendment ensures that our service members’ children receive a safe and appropriate education.

Pitching in 2024 Congressional Baseball Game
Wednesday night I had the honor of taking the field as the starting pitcher in the 2024 Congressional Baseball Game at Nationals Park in Washington, DC. This annual bipartisan event, a tradition since 1909, brings members of Congress together off the floor and on the field. Having played for the Republican team since 2019, I’ve achieved milestones such as hitting the first Congressional out-of-the-park home run at a major league stadium in Congressional baseball history and pitching a 10-0 shutout. It was a great evening of camaraderie and bipartisan competition! Thank you to all who cheered us on from FL-17!
