Congressman Greg Steube July 28, 2024

July 28, 2024

Dear Floridian:

Happy Sunday! Earlier this week, I introduced articles of impeachment against Kimberly A. Cheatle, the now-resigned Director of the United States Secret Service (USSS), for her dereliction of duty that allowed a shooter to target and injure President Trump, and kill an American hero. While we are pleased she resigned the morning after I filed these articles, this is only the beginning. The American people deserve answers to what happened on July 13. A task force has been created to investigate the Secret Service failures on that day and hold all responsible.

Additionally, my bipartisan bill, the Promoting Accountability, Reporting, Information Sharing, and Health Act, has advanced out of the Ways and Means Committee. This legislation aims to improve oversight and protect youth in residential treatment facilities.

On Wednesday, I attended Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s address to Congress, where I reaffirmed our steadfast support for Israel and heard his insights on combating Hamas and freeing the hostages – including our American hostages.

Introducing Articles of Impeachment to USSS Director Kimberly Cheatle to Force Her Resignation

This week, I introduced articles of impeachment against Kimberly A. Cheatle, Director of the United States Secret Service (USSS), forcing her resignation. Cheatle’s dereliction of duty allowed a shooter to target and injure President Trump, the leading 2024 Presidential candidate, in an assassination attempt. Because of this, an American hero is dead and others are wounded. The Secret Service’s failure to secure the event site and their mishandling of known threats contributed to this dangerous situation. As a result, Cheatle ultimately resigned from her position. This action highlights the need for accountability within the USSS to ensure the safety of all Americans. The American people deserve answers, and I voted in favor of a new House Task Force to investigate the grave security failures on July 13, 2024.

Steube Legislation for Foster Youth Advances Out of Committee

My bill, the Promoting Accountability, Reporting, Information Sharing, and Health Act, introduced with Rep. Jimmy Panetta (D-Calif.), advanced out of the Ways and Means Committee on Wednesday. This bipartisan legislation is crucial for improving oversight and protecting youth in residential treatment facilities. The bill directs federal agencies to develop guidance on best practices, enhance data on maltreatment, and improve oversight of youth residential programs receiving federal funding.

Attending Prime Minister Netanyahu’s Address to Congress

The 118th Congress welcomed Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to Washington on Wednesday. As a steadfast ally, I stand with Israel. Our nations share a deep bond rooted in shared values of freedom and security and together we face the challenges of a dangerous world. I appreciated hearing Prime Minister Netanyahu’s insights on how Israel is working to defeat Hamas and free the hostages – including our American hostages! I was pleased to have David Chaifetz, from Sarasota, join me for Prime Minister Netanyahu’s address before Congress as my official guest. Israel and the United States share a strong bond, and I was glad to reaffirm our support this week.

I would think we’re beyond that… She owns every bit of the Biden-Harris administration for the last three and a half years. And that’s all you have to focus on.'”
