Congressman Greg Steube September 1, 2024

September 1, 2024

Dear Floridian:

Happy Labor Day Weekend to America’s workforce! As a reminder, the Federal Disaster Recovery Center at Sarasota Christian Church will be closed Sunday and Monday in observance. Normal hours resume Tuesday.

This weekend also marks the beginning of the peak of hurricane season. As Floridians, we understand the critical importance of being ready for the next storm. Take advantage of Florida’s Disaster Preparedness Sales Tax Holiday, running now through September 6, to stock up on essential supplies without paying sales tax.

As we remember the tragic anniversary of the Afghanistan Abbey Gate bombing, where 13 brave American service members lost their lives, let us honor their sacrifice and reflect on the need for accountability for the disastrous Biden-Harris Afghanistan Withdrawal.

I’m excited to announce the latest testimonial in our Veterans History Project Series, featuring Master Chief Petty Officer Bob Gerle, of Port Charlotte, whose experiences during the Cold War and Vietnam Era underscore the resilience and dedication of our armed forces.

Take Advantage of Florida’s Disaster Preparedness Sales Tax Holiday

Florida’s Disaster Preparedness Sales Tax Holiday runs from August 24 to September 6, offering an opportunity to purchase essential hurricane preparedness supplies without paying sales tax. Given the recent impact of Hurricane Debby, which left many families struggling to recover, it’s more important than ever for Floridians to be well-prepared for the remainder of hurricane season. This tax holiday is not just a financial break; it’s a chance to ensure that you and your loved ones have the necessary items to weather any future storms safely. Whether you need batteries, flashlights, or other emergency supplies, now is the time to stock up and stay ready.

Remembering the Heroes of Abbey Gate: A Tragic Anniversary

Last Monday marked three years since the devastating Abbey Gate bombing during the 2021 Afghanistan withdrawal. On that tragic day, 13 brave service members lost their lives—a needless tragedy orchestrated under Joe Biden and Kamala Harris’s watch. This should have never happened. Not a single person has been fired for the withdrawal, but that is how Joe and Kamala operate: zero accountability. The American people will not forget. As we remember these heroes, I pray for the Gold Star Families who deserve better than this administration. Say their names: Sgt. Johanny Rosario Pichardo, Sgt. Nicole L. Gee, Staff Sgt. Darin T. Hoover, Cpl. Hunter Lopez, Cpl. Daegan W. Page, Cpl. Humberto A. Sanchez, Lance Cpl. David L. Espinoza, Lance Cpl. Jared M. Schmitz, Lance Cpl. Rylee J. McCollum, Lance Cpl. Dylan R. Merola, Lance Cpl. Kareem M. Nikoui, Navy Corpsman Maxton W. Soviak, and Staff Sgt. Ryan C. Knauss.

SARASOTA HERALD TRIBUNE | Sarasota congressman Steube cosponsors bill to outlaw IRS direct tax filing program

“’Americans do not want the IRS as their accountant. It’s big government overreach for the IRS to do Americans’ taxes for them, while also acting as the collector and auditor,’ Steube said. ‘A government-run tax prep system is a bad idea and a massive conflict of interest for an agency that is already weaponized against hard-working Americans.'”

NEWSMAX | Heritage Action Using Proposed Gender Law as Gauge

“Heritage Action for America is using the Defining Male and Female Act, a bill that would define sex based on biology, as a key vote in determining how lawmakers stand on issues conservatives care about… In addition, the lawmakers who co-sponsored Miller’s legislation also will get credit on the Heritage scorecard. They are GOP Reps. Debbie Lesko of Arizona, Lisa McClain of Michigan, Anna Paulina Luna of Florida, Lauren Boebert of Colorado, Claudia Tenney of New York, Barry Moore of Alabama, Greg Steube of Florida, Doug LaMalfa of California, Keith Self of Texas, Michael Guest of Mississippi, Andy Harris of Maryland, and Alex Mooney of West Virginia.”

THE FLORIDIAN | ‘Border Czar’ Kamala Harris Flip Flops on Building Trump’s Border Wall

“Rep. Greg Steube echoed Rep. Bilirakis’ ‘Border Czar; referencing of Harris and said that the only reason why she was supporting a border wall was because recent public opinion polling showed Trump trouncing her on the issue of illegal immigration and border security.”
