November 10, 2024 Dear Floridian: From one veteran to all our veterans of Florida’s 17th Congressional District – I wish you a happy Veterans Day tomorrow! This week, I cosponsored a resolution honoring the service and sacrifice of America’s veterans, recognizing the invaluable contributions of those who have served our nation. Our nation owes you a huge debt of gratitude. I encourage all veterans to consider participating in the Veterans History Project, which offers local veterans in Sarasota, Charlotte, and Lee counties the opportunity to share their experiences with my office and preserve their testimony for generations to come through the Library of Congress. I also outlined important deadlines for disaster recovery resources for those impacted by Hurricanes Milton, Helene, and/or Debby. Please take advantage of these resources and apply for support before the approaching deadlines. I am outraged at the antisemitic attacks occurring in Amsterdam this week. Since October 7, 2023, we’ve witnessed a horrific surge in antisemitic attacks on Jewish students on college campuses and hateful targeting of our Jewish communities. I stand with our Jewish communities in America and around the world. I am committed to fighting against this alarming trend and standing strongly against antisemitism. Honoring Our Veterans Through the Veterans History Project Our nation’s veterans have made invaluable contributions, and their testimonies should be preserved for future generations. I’m honored to support the Veterans History Project, a Library of Congress initiative that honors the firsthand experiences of those who have served. If you or someone you know is a veteran in Sarasota, Charlotte, or Lee counties and willing to share their story, my office is conducting interviews year-round. This is a powerful way to ensure our veterans’ sacrifices and experiences are never forgotten. Visit steube.house.gov/vhp to learn more and sign up today. Important Deadlines for Hurricane Assistance If you were impacted by Hurricanes Milton, Helene, and/or Debby, be sure to apply for assistance before the upcoming deadlines. FEMA application deadlines are December 11 for Milton, November 27 for Helene, and November 12 for Debby, while SBA loan deadlines fall on December 10 for Milton, November 27 for Helene, and November 12 for Debby. For FEMA assistance, visit DisasterAssistance.gov , use the FEMA app, or call 800-621-FEMA (3362). To apply for SBA loans, go to sba.gov or call 800-659-2955. Additionally, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers has extended the deadline to sign up for Operation Blue Roof until November 14. This free program provides industrial-strength sheeting to protect storm-damaged roofs until permanent repairs can be made. Homeowners and permanently occupied rental properties can sign up at blueroof.gov or by calling 888-ROOF-BLU (888-766-3258). Don’t miss these deadlines to secure the support you’re eligible to receive. Read about these resources and more on my website here . Standing Against Antisemitism This week, we witnessed a horrific rise in antisemitic attacks on Jewish Israelis in Amsterdam, where anti-Israel mobs hunted individuals through the streets while chanting “Free Palestine.” This coordinated assault, taking place just two days before the anniversary of Kristallnacht, has resulted in victims being hospitalized, families living in fear, and others still unaccounted for. Such disturbing events are not random; they stem from far-left ideologies that have normalized antisemitic hatred. I stand with our Jewish communities in America and around the world, and I am committed to fighting against this alarming surge in antisemitism. Read more here . |
