The Webster WireListening to FloridiansDear Friends: It was great to greet so many teachers and administrators at the South Lake Chamber and Leesburg Chamber of Commerce Teacher and Staff Appreciation Breakfast events last week. We are grateful for those who devote themselves to Florida’s future by investing their time and talent in Florida’s students. As students, teachers, and staff throughout our district returned to their schools to start the new school year this morning, I wish everyone a safe and blessed 2024-2025 school year! On Wednesday, I joined the West Orange Chamber Networking Group at the Healthy West Orange Building in Winter Garden. I spoke about how my office works diligently with federal agency liaisons on a constituent’s behalf to answer questions, find solutions, or simply attempt to cut through the red tape. I am committed to continuing to work to improve the quality, effectiveness and efficiency of our federal agencies. If you are a constituent in Congressional District 11 in need of assistance with a federal agency, call 352-241-9220 or visit https://webster.house.gov/casework . It was great to tour Shepherd’s Hope Health Center last week with Dr. William S. Barnes, founder and pastor of St. Luke’s United Methodist Church; Donna Walsh, President and CEO; and Rosie Miller, Vice President Of Philanthropy. Founded in 1997, Shepherd’s Hope is a free and charitable healthcare clinic that has provided over 317,000 primary and specialty care patient visits. Today, Shepherd’s Hope has four medical health centers, continuing to bring hope and healing to many in need in our community. I also visited with Jason Hitte, Lead Pastor and Founder of Lakeside Church at their Oakland Campus. Pastor John shared with me the ministries of the church and the new Lakeside Academy for children ages 4-6 at their other location in Minneola. A new Four Corners Campus is slated to launch this September at Lake Pointe Academy. I am grateful for the dedication of those who are working and investing in our next generation. On Friday, I served bags of food to our community at the Joining Hands in Food Ministry – Food Distribution with Gloria Dei Lutheran Church and First Presbyterian Church of Leesburg. Thank you to Richard Cassem, CEO of Joining Hands in Food Ministry, and the countless volunteers who dedicate their time each month to feeding our neighbors! In the afternoon, I joined Cynthia Burton, Executive Director of Cornerstone Hospice in Lake and Sumter Counties, and Jeff Collignon, Executive Director of Cornerstone Foundation for a tour of their facility. The Cornerstone Hospice Foundation supports Cornerstone Hospice. Cornerstone provides hospice care to anyone who needs it, regardless of their financial situation.
It was great to visit several businesses throughout the district last week to see how Florida’s pro-business environment has helped them grow. On Wednesday, I visited Main Street Mower and toured their 25,000 square foot shop in Winter Garden. A family-owned business, Main Street Mower is celebrating 30 years of serving the community by selling and servicing brand-name outdoor power equipment to homeowners and contractors. Afterwards, I visited the Little Greek Fresh Grill Restaurant in Winter Garden and met with Owner Scott Lyon and Manager Joe Cardona. Scott owns four locations in Central Florida: Winter Garden, Dr. Phillips, Lake Mary, and the Loop Kissimmee. Congratulations on this new location!
